Last month we looked at Christ's deity, this month we'll look at His humanity.
Isaiah's prophecy. If we turn to the Old Testament prophecy of Isaiah we find in chapter 7v14 it is prophesised that Christ would be born of a virgin. While chapter 9v6 tells that while He is a given Son, He is a child born pointing to His humanity.
Gospel recordsIn Luke 1v31 and Matthew 1v16 the angel Gabriel tells Mary that she would conceive and bring forth a son and call His name Jesus. In Matthew 1v18, Mary is spoken of being found with child of the Holy Ghost. Whilst John 1v14 tells us the "Word was made flesh" speaking of Christ. We see His humanity in action in the Gospel records. For in Matthew 26v37 we read of how He sorrowed, in Luke 2v40 of how He grew as a child does. Whilst in Luke 4v2 it tells us that He hungered, in Luke 8v23 the disciples found Him asleep. John 4v6 tells of how He was weary while in John 11v35 He weeps. Each of this experiences show forth His humanity.
In the epistles:In the epistles we learn more of Christ's humanity. In 1 Timothy 3v16 we are told of how Christ is "God manifest in the flesh" whilst 1 John 4v2 tells us of how He "came in the flesh". Romans 8v3 tells of how He came in the likeness of sinless flesh, for as we will see next month He was completely sinless. In 1 Timothy 2v5 He is called the "man Christ Jesus" and in Galatians 4v4 we are told that He is "made of a woman".There are other verses that testify of Christ's humanity but these are the ones I have picked out. Over the last two months we've seen that while Christ is God, He is also human, next month we shall look at those verses that testify of His sinlessness.
