ASSEMBLY YOUTH

Marriage
by A. Wood

An open letter to the Deputy Editor of Assembly Youth, Simon Latham.

Dear Simon, it has come to my attention that on the 21st October of this year you are getting married. With this in mind, I wonder if I might bring a few Scriptures to your mind.

What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." (Mark 10v9) Getting is married is one of the most important moments in your life. Second only to getting saved, it is quite possibly the most defining moment in your life. It will affect the rest of your life on this earth and also the rewards you will gain in Heaven. It is also normally a one-off decision. That is once made, there is no going back. Once married there is no escape, no get out clause, apart from death or the Lord's return. I have no doubt that you have been before the Lord about this and are as confident as one can be that you have chosen the one that the Lord has planned for you. Can I remind others reading this that before they get married they need to be likewise confident that they are following God's will for their life and have chosen the right one. Not just a fellow Christian but a true help meet, that is one that will help them in your Christian life and likewise one you will help in her Christian life.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church .... (Ephesians 5v25)

I know Simon if I asked you, that you would say you love fiance, are you ready to love her as much as Christ did? Verse 28, Paul also says you "should love their wives as their own bodies" Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. (Ephesians 5v22)

A lot is made of this verse, saying how it is against women, having to submit to their husbands. However, let us put this in context. Simon if you are willing to love your wife as Christ loves the church, then your wife will have no problem, submitting to you. For just as we are willing to submit to Christ, knowing that He loves us and has given his all for us, she will be willing to submit to you.

Finally Simon, we, your fellow workers, pray that the Lord may be with you and your future wife and guide you together for His Glory.

God bless,

Woody
