how much is Christ worth to you
by A. Wood

Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, (Matthew 27v9)

How much is Christ worth to you?
To the Jewish leaders He was worth just 30 pieces of silver, the price of a slave in those days. Just think this is the Lord of Glory, the One who was with God in the beginning when He created this earth, the One who sustains all things and the One who was willing to leave the glories of Heaven and come to this Earth, to die for our sins. Yet, all they valued Him at was 30 pieces of silver.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8v9)

He was willing to become poor, that we might become rich. This was one who was born in a manger, one who just 2 turtledoves were offered (Leviticus 12v8, Luke 2v24). When we consider how far Christ came for us, surely we stand in amazement. For having been valued at just 30 pieces of silver, He then was willing to be crucified for us, to be made a public example of, and yet all this was not for sins our own, for He had none, but it was for your sins and mine. Well might we sing, Hallelujah! What a Saviour.
