The role of God in the Bible
Haggai
by S. Latham

October 2007 is upon us and we move into the book of Haggai. Another interesting book to study, one that has taken me some time to get to grips with. The word God is only written 3 times in the book of Haggai, therefore making finding the role of God in this book a little more difficult.

May I draw your attention to chapter 1, verse 7. It reads “Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!” I wonder how many times do we stop and consider what’s happening? Do we consider what we’re doing and where we’re going in life? Maybe its time this is done, right now, bring your ways before the Lord.

Haggai chapter 2 looks at the coming glory of God’s House is the way its titled in the New King James Version. This made me think! Have you ever thought what it will be like in Heaven? In His presence? It’s going to be amazing, in a way that we won’t understand until we get there. Are you looking forward to it?

My attention has been drawn during my study to chapter 2 verses 6 and 7 which reads For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts. Here we see the overthrowing of enemies, something which God continues to do even today. While He watches over us in our day by day life, He looks over those who would cause us to stumble. How much do we realise that God is watching over us as we live?

In the month ahead, as we head towards Christmas of 2007, and a new year approaches fast, thank God that He has the power to stop the enemies and watch us as we walk with Him.
