| Ezekiel's call Ezekiel 1v28-3v2 | by A. Wood | |
|---|---|---|
His humbleness (1v28)The first thing we notice about Ezekiel here is that he fell upon his face when he saw "the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD". It is good to notice his humbleness before the Lord.
The work of the Holy Spirit (2v1-2)Now we see the Holy Spirit at work, entering into Ezekiel and speaking to him.
His responsibility (2v3-5)And so Ezekiel is sent to preach to the children of Israel. The Lord tells him that they are "impudent children and stiff hearted". The Lord does not hold Ezekiel accountable for whether the Israelites here or forbear, just that they "shall know that there hath been a prophet among them". Likewise the Lord does not hold us accountable for how people respond to us just that they should know we are Christians.
Do not be afraid (2v6-7)Are you ever worried about what your friends may say about you, or perhaps the look they will give you when they know you are a Christian. Here Ezekiel is told not to be "afraid of their words ... nor be dismayed at their looks." but rather to focus on speaking His words unto them.
Obedience (2v8-3v2)Ever looked at a piece of Scripture and thought it strange? Here Ezekiel is told to eat the roll God gives him. Ezekiel doesn't question what may well seem a strange request but simply obeys.
So what can I learn from this5 points that we can take for ourselves as we seek to follow God:1. I should be humble before my God 2. The Holy Spirit has a work to play in the calling of a servant. 3. My responsibility is not the results of our witness but just that I witness. 4. I should not be afraid of other people's reactions but rather focus on what God has for me. 5. I should obey God's Word however strange it may seem.
