So we come to the end of Numbers 15, in the last 5 verses God commands them to make a blue tassel for each of their clothes. Well first what is a tassel? It is a decorative ball added to a piece of clothing often dangling from the end. But what was its purpose? It was to remind of them to serve God and not themselves. We are no different from the Israelites, we are all human and we all want to please ourselves. However, like the Israelites we need to stop and consider God. Each one of us has a choice to make, we can either seek to please ourselves, or to please God. These verses reminds me of Paul's words in Romans, and I don't think they need any further explanation: Romans 15v1-7 We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbour for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me." For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
