Thought for the month
Don't be like Peter
by S. Latham

For this month, I’d like to spend a few moments looking at something that happens regularly in my life and probably in yours too. I wander how many people have asked you what you believe in lately? When you’re asked an opinion, how do you express it? How about when you’re asked if you’re a Christian?

This can be tough to answer sometimes when for the sake of being made fun of, it’s easier to say you’re not a Christian and you don’t go to church?

We read in Matthew chapter 26 verse 34: Jesus said to Peter “Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice”

I have found this a very challenging verse over the last few months; would I deny the Lord three times? Have I? I’d be ashamed to say I probably have at stages in my life, which as we know, did Peter no good at all, and is the same for us denying Him.

I wander if you have ever thought about this?
It should make you cringe and ask yourself why? When we remember that Jesus stood amongst the crowds and declared He is the Christ, He is the one who claimed to have done so many wonderful things, and some who stood around had his destination in mind, as did Jesus Himself, the cross of Calvary.

Over the next month, and beyond, before you answer people’s questions challenging you about your faith, challenge yourself, don’t be like Peter, and stand up for what you believe and the man at the centre of your life.
