Read - Matthew 14v 1-36.As I read this portion there are many verses which describe some of the wonderful things the LORD did whilst here on earth. When Herod had heard about Jesus, his guilty conscience had concluded that John had risen from the dead, and was now performing miracles in resurrection, something which He had never done in his life (John ch10v41) On hearing of John's martyrdom, Jesus went to a place of solitude. However he was followed by a crowd and the quiet He sought, was not given. I notice something that Jesus did something that would probably be opposite to what we would do - that was He received them and didn’t tell them to leave Him in peace. Not a trace of irritation or annoyance. Verse 14 says "And when Jesus went out, He saw a great multitude, and He was moved with compassion for them. Later, He fed a company of over 5000, with only 5 loaves and 2 fish. Have you observed the Lord's way of working here? Firstly, He requested the disciples to bring the food, which was very limited to Him, He then wonderfully multiplied their contribution and finally gave it to them for distribution to the gathered crowds. Today, in November, 2003, He is still using His 'disciples', to meet the needs of men. He asks us come out and give the LORD what little we have, He blesses these little talents and gifts we have and looks to us to hand them out and use them for His glory. That night, the disciples were rowing on the turbulent Sea of Galilee. Jesus approached them walking on water, and to calm their fears, of not only a rough storm, but of someone walking towards them on the water. He simply said, "It is I, be not afraid". His Words "It is finished" (John ch19v30) direct us to the cross and of the fact that salvation is complete. Matthew ch4v4 directs us to His word and a weapon that enables us to overcome the wicked one. His words, "It is I" (Matthew ch4v27) direct us to the Person and His abiding presence through all the struggles and trials of life. Jesus Christ is someone who lives today and is seeking to guide us if we are willing to His words.
