Christ's parables
build on the rock
by A. Wood

Matthew 6v24-27 and Luke 6v47-49

This parable is well used in the gospel and rightly so, however, I believe it can also be applied to us believers as well. How many times has each one of us heard the sayings of Christ. Yet James reminds us in his epistle (ch.1v23) to be "doers of the word, and not hearers only".

How easy it is to just go along to a ministry meeting, hear the Word of God read and explained, to go away from that meeting saying, "It was a good meeting" and yet do nothing about it. It is as if the Word went in one ear and out the other. In this life we face many a storm, many a time we will find the tempest raging, and what have we built on in defence. Do we have a solid foundation of God's Word to defend us. It is not enough to just go along to the meetings, even to read God's Word every day if we never sit up and take note of what God is saying to us and apply it to our lives.

Have you ever been frustrated by an unbeliever, who comes to the Gospel meeting. Week in, week out they hear God's Word preached but sadly they never take note of it, never do they place their trust in Christ. Well as I write this article I'm caused to ponder how much do I frustrate God? How often does He speak to me through His Word and yet I don't take note. My brother, my sister, it is time each one of us took note of what God has to say to us, and if we cannot hear His voice, perhaps it is time we take time out of our busy lives, and spend time with Him in prayer.
