I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. John 17v15In John 17 the Lord Jesus prays for us! This is the night before He would be crucified, He is praying for us. He is not just praying for the apostles but for all those who would trust through their word in Him (verse 20). He does not pray that we may be kept in isolation in some monastary somewhere, but rather that we might be kept from the evil one. Whether we like it or not we are in this world, but that does not mean we have to act like the world. In verses 17 and 19 He prays that we might be sanctified. That is that we might be seperate from the world, seperated unto God. There should be a difference between us and the world. When our friends and family, who know not Christ, look at us they should see that difference. The fact that we do some things, and don't do others, the joy we have of knowing Christ us our Saviour ad Lord, the faith we have in His guiding hand. You know, it is through that difference that they will see Jesus, and want to come to know Him too. How do I know this? Well it was due to the difference I saw in my best friend, that I came to know Christ. Jesus sent us into the world, not to be like the world, but that we might be a shining light for Him, that others may come to know Him.
