Dare to be a Daniel
the effect of the word of God
by A. Wood

What effect does the word of God have on you? Here at the beginning of Daniel 10, Daniel hears the word of God. We see that it leads him to fast and mourn for 3 weeks. I ask myself the same question I ask you, when was the last time the word of God affected us? As we read in God's holy word things concerning Himself, things concerning things to come, does it have an effect on us? Does it ever cause us to fall down on our knees in awe of God? To pray, even to fast, for those we know who know not the Saviour? For those who are saved but have lost their way?

As we go in the chapter we read in verse 11 that Daniel was greatly loved. We are all loved by God, for He proved that in sending His Son to die for us at the cross, but Daniel here was greatly loved, no doubt he had spent much time with God, speaking to Him in prayer, reading His word and seeking to do His Will and no doubt he loved God greatly as well as he had seen God work in his life many times. I wonder can it be said of us that we are greatly loved? Have we as Daniel did and set our hearts to understand and to humble ourselves before God?
