So we move on into Daniel chapter 4 this month. Here we have an open letter written by King Nebuchadnezzar to all his people. It details how God dealt with Nebuchadnezzer who had "got too big for his boots". Nebuchadnezzer seems to have become very powerful but also very proud. Boasting how it is his mighty power (verse 30) that great Babylon has been built. God has sent Nebuchadnezzer a dream, a warning of what is to happen. Daniel, understandably a bit nervous, hesitates before delivering the message, God has for Nebuchadnezzer. If we are talking to other people about God and about Christ then we should be a bit nervous, for we are talking in the place of God, that is fulfilling our duty before God. However, we should not allow that nervousness overtake us. Also note Daniel's way of putting things. He doesn't do it in a boastful, arrogant way, but puts in a kind manner, wishing it upon Nebuchadnezzer's enemies, and telling him how he can escape God's punishment by breaking off from his sins. Likewise we should never be arrogant when telling others about the Gospel, but reach out to people and explain their need of a Saviour. Our presentation of God's Gospel should always be as a kind, urgent warning never as a boast of our position compared to theirs.
