As the months roll on, we move into the study of the role of God in the 3rd Minor Prophet, the book of Amos. The word God appears in 32 different verses in this book - not always referring to God - Jesus Christ - a book that is one that is rarely read nowadays but strangely enough, by pure coincidence, this book also echoes what I have written in the other article this month To start with, my attention was drawn to Amos chapter 4 verse 11 which reads "I overthrew some of you, As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning, Yet you have not returned to Me," Says the Lord." What a reminder, we were rescued from an eternity in hell, a reminder of what God did to Sodom and Gomorrah, but as Christians, we have returned to Christ to give Him thanks and worship Him for saving us from what could have been our future. Amos chapter 4 verse 13 reminds us of the mighty hand of God - "For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is, And makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth- The LORD God of hosts is His name." As I said at the beginning of the article, this book also echoes what I said in my other article this month, and the verse that reiterates this, is Amos chapter 5 verse 14. It reads "Seek good and not evil, That you may live; So the LORD God of hosts will be with you, As you have spoken." Firstly, the point of seeking good and not evil - as the month ahead progresses, do we seek good rather than evil, in an evil world this isn't easy, I trust you will lean on Him to strengthen you to seek that which is good. When you seek good, we may live the verse reads. The next sentence is the one that has made the impression on me, the Lord God of hosts will be with you - just like a friend, Saviour, He is our husbandman, the one we can depend on to remain at your side. May you let Him remain by your side, as we move through March and into April. Please send any questions or comments you have on this article to s.latham@assemblyyouth.net
