Do not be anxious
by A. Wood

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4v6-7)

What are you worried about? Exam time is upon us and maybe you are concerned about what your results will be. How will you cope if you don't get what you are aiming for? Maybe you think you've found the boy or girl of your dreams and are concerned how you will cope if they say no? Maybe you are worried about the health of one of your family or friends?

Many things can worry us, but God here invites us to make our requests known unto Him. In return He promises to give us peace. It is a peace that passes all understanding. When things happen and we wonder how we will cope, God is there to help us through. Just because we are a Christian, doesn't mean things will always go right for us, but we have a God who loves us and will help us to cope. What ever is on your mind, take it to God in prayer and ask Him to give you peace about the matter. We cannot understand the peace God gives, but we can enjoy it, what would normally break our hearts doesn't because God gives us a peace to help us cope.

Oh and don't forget to note the word thanksgiving there in verse 6. We should always remember to give thanks to God. First that we can take these things to Him, and secondly for that peace He gives us to help us cope with life's ups and downs.

I leave you with the first verse of that famous hymn, What a friend we have in Jesus (by Joseph M. Scriven)
What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.
