I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10v11 This month we are looking at Jesus being the good shepherd, in John 10v11-18. In those days there were two main kind of shepehrds, there was the one who had grown up looking after the flock day in and day out, who really cared for that flock and if a wolf came, would be willing to fight life and limb to protect the flock. On the other hand there was the hired shepherd brought in to do a job, the hired shepherd would not have the same care of the flock and when a wolf came would be more worried about there ownself then the flock and would run off. Jesus is no hired shepherd, He was not brought in to do a job. He loves and cares for each one of us, and when the day came for Him to give His own life for us, He did it willingly. Jesus could have just left us to die and go to hell, but instead He came and took our punishment for us, to die there on Calvery's cross that we might have eternal life, surely that is amazing love, that one would die for us who so easily like sheep go astray (Isaiah 53v6). Let us not forget that not only has He died once for us, but even now He cares for us and is interceding on our behalf. (Romans 8v34) Whatever difficulties come your way this month, remember there is One in Heaven who loved you enough to die for you, and is even now looking out for you and asking God for help on your behalf.
