Thought for the month
our example
by S. Latham

For my second article this month, I’d like to write briefly on Christ’s Example. The passage of scripture that grabbed my attention a few days ago was John chapter 13 verses 13-17. “You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”

I read this passage and I sat and pondered for a while. I asked myself some questions, would I be willing to wash other people’s feet? Jesus did this, and I am therefore following the example that Christ is, and do the same. Sometimes I think that there are people I would be happy to wash their feet, but there are others I’m not so sure about.

Christ, in everything He did, lived by example, and whilst doing this, was perfect in every way. I know we cannot be perfect whilst here on earth, but by being willing to do the lowly tasks, such as washing peoples feet, we’re following in Christ’s example.

In my job, I have to set people in the right ways of the British Law, sticking to speed limits, behaving right, abiding by the law and sometimes makes me think I must do the same. In the same way, we must, in our Christian lives try and follow in the footsteps of Him.
