As we start this month’s study into the role of God in the book of 1 Corinthians, I have searched how many times the word God appears in this book, and I was surprised when it came up 103 times, with only 2 of them referring to god or god’s and not God in chapter 8 verse 5. Our first port of call is in chapter 1 verse 4 which reads “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus”. Now as we walk in our Christian life with Him, do we give thanks to Him for the grace not only given to others, but also to us? Sometimes, we’re in situations where others or us need grace to deal with it, maybe someone says something we don’t like at work, school or college, so we need to look to Him to give us grace. What happens afterwards? Do we say anything in thanks to Him? Moving onto chapter 3 verses 9, is a very timely reminder to all of us as we go live our lives. It reads “For we are God’s fellow workers, you are God’s field, you are God’s building”.> It can be so easy to forget sometimes as we live in a dark world, spiritually. We are God’s through and through, working in our lives for Him, in His world, and our bodies are God’s. We should remember this as we try to be more like Him. The next reference follows on from our previous verse, it’s in chapter 6 verse 20. “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." My final reference in this study is in chapter 15 verse 10, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” From this study into this book, I conclude that God’s role in this book is the giver of grace, He is all in all. As we head swiftly into the month of August, over half way through the year of 2008, may we remember, He is the one who allows us to have our being, provides us grace, but the grace that is His, was so great that He gave His son to be our Saviour.
