Christ in all the Scriptures
Noah
by A. Wood

Having compared Christ to the flood last month, this month we are going to compare him to Noah. We will see what in Noah's life was like Christ and what sadly wasn't, hopefully learning one or two lessons along the way.

But Noah found favour in the eyes of the LORD. Genesis 6v8
A century before the flood came, God looked out on the people of earth and saw their wickedness. However, one man Noah found favour in the sight of God. We can think of how from Heaven, the Father would declare of Christ: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased (from Matthew 17v5)
so we can see both lived lives that were pleasing to God. I wonder do our lives please God. It is easy for us to make an excuse about how bad things are these days, but were they any better in Noah's day or in deed our Lord's days on this earth?

Noah, a herald of righteousness (from 2 Peter 2v5)
Noah preached the righteousness of God. He warned others about the coming flood, just as our Lord did, for we read:
Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God (from Mark 1v14)
Noah and our Lord both told others about God, not necessarily in public nor necessarily from a platform. I wonder in our daily lives do we tell others about God?

He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent. (Genesis 9v21
Sadly unlike our Lord, Noah was not perfect. While Christ was without sin, Noah did sin. Here we read of Noah getting drunk and laying uncovered in his tent, this leading to further sin involving one of his sons. There is no doubt that Noah started well, he did what God told him to do, but sadly in his later years, he fell into sin. On the other hand our Lord Jesus Christ started and ended well, at the start of his ministry in Matthew 3 and at the end in Matthew 17 we read that the Father was well pleased with Him. Will you be like Noah or Christ? I trust that you have started your Christian journey well, but how will it end? Will you be able to say as the apostle Paul did:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4v7)
