x Spending time in Nahum

ASSEMBLY YOUTH

Spending time in the Scriptures
Nahum
by A. Kimber

This month we have another book based around the city of Nineveh, Jonah had been here about 150 years previous but now Nahum comes to bring God's condemnation and prophesises the downfall of the city.

Nahum begins with a look at the character of God, we are shown a God who is slow to anger but great in power, nothing can stand before Him and nature itself it at his command. Yet Nahum presents this in a very interesting way; as we have these prophesies of God's judgements interspersed by reminders of God's goodness and faithfulness.

Nahum takes great care to remind that God’s vengeance is great against those who are set against Him and how that He will judge, and will do so righteously.

Take time to read this book yourself, it’s only three short chapters yet you will discover the ways that God considers unfaithfulness and His absolute justice and righteousness. Next month Habakkuk, once I can spell it we’ll able to tackle another of the books that we don’t often seem to consider.

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually? Nahum 3:19
