Dare to be a Daniel
the lion's den
by A. Wood

So we come to the 2nd half of Daniel 6, we saw last month his testimony before men. This month we see him thrown into the lions den. The king is stuck between a rock and a hard place! He doesn't want to punish Daniel but is too scared to break his own law and deal with the outcry. So just as Pilate sentenced Jesus to the cross, so Daniel is sentenced to the lions den. We hear no word of complaint from Daniel just as Jesus was silent.

We saw some months back, Daniel's three friends, cast into a burning furnace, and yet delivered by God. This time Daniel, having been thrown into the lion's den, is delivered. We have another example of God delivering His Saints from deadly situations, again showing God's power, and we see the king's reaction, as he proclaims that all should worship Daniel's God. Oh and just incase you were wondering if perhaps the lions weren't hungry that night, when the king throws in Daniel's accusers, they are ripped limb from limb even before they reached the floor!

So why if God was able to deliver Daniel's three friends from the burning furnace, and here able to deliver Daniel from the lion's den, did He allow His own Son to die on the cross of Calvary? It was because of His love for us, He made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5v21). Christ died that we might be forgiven if we simply trust and believe in Him for our Salvation.
