And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10v24-25 So another year has past, each year that passes brings us closer to the year the Lord will return. In fact each day that passes brings us closes to the Day when He will return for His own, we don't know when it will be, but we are closer to that day now then last year. As we look around ourselves in the world today, things seem to be getting worse, earthquakes more frequent, more wars, more rumours of wars, a general disregard for God's laws, all signs that the Lord will return soon and take His people away. But how should we live as this day draw near? The writer of the letter to Hebrews is quite clear, we should be encouraging one another. How? By stirring one another to love, to do good works and to not neglect meeting together. There may be a few still who have not heard the fires in a coal analogy, which reminds us how when a burning coal is taken out of a fire it cools down, until it is put back in that fire. Likewise we Christians can grow cold if we are not meeting together with our fellow believers. The writer also tells us to stir one another to love and to do good works. While those good works will not save us, having been saved we are encouraged to do good works, helping others, that through us they might see Christ. (see Matthew 5v16, Acts 9:36, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Timothy 2v10, 5v10, 6v18 among others). We also need to love one another. (John 13:34-35, John 15:12-17, 1 Peter 3:8). So as we see the Day of the Lord's return drawing near, let us stir up one another to love and good works, not neglect meeting together but encourage one another.
