In this months study we move into the Gospel of Mark as we continue into the second book of the New Testament. In this book the word God appears 50 times which compared to some books of this size is quite a few. We, of course, see the crucifixion scene portrayed in this book along with the other Gospels. Firstly, my attention was drawn to chapter 1 verse 15 which reads “saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel””. I remember at the age of 4 being told that Jesus was going to return soon and now was the time I should be asking Jesus into my life and soul as Saviour and Lord. Here we read, a clear message for those who are yet to come to faith in Him, an invitation to Repent and believe. Note, this does not say, believe, it says Repent and believe! Mark chapter 2 verse 7 reads “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” What a timely reminder! We must, as Christians, give thanks that He is able to forgive us as He continues to do in our day to day lives. If it were not for that forgiveness, we would not be able to live today in the knowledge of our assured salvation and awaiting heavenly home. Moving onto Mark chapter 10 verse 18 which reads “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” I know as Christians we all try hard to be Christ-like but as this verse states there is only one, and that is Him. In the meanwhile we must try to portray Him in all we do. Along the same lines of my previous comment, Mark chapter 10 verse 27 reads “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible”.> What a reminder! We can sometimes put things that we cannot do beyond God before we even ask of Him. He is able to do things above what we can ask or even think. From my study into the book of Mark, I would say that the role of God is the all powerful, graceful, and the mighty. In the month that lies ahead, remember this as you walk close to Him.
