Having looked at God's choosing of priest last month let us now look at priestly responsibilities in Numbers 18
In the first few verses of this chapter we see how responsibility was given for keeping the sanctuary holy. That the priests together with their tribe, Levi, were to ensure no stranger came near. 1 Corinthians 6v12-20 remind us that our "body is a temple of the Holy Spirit" that we need to keep it holy. Paul goes on to tell us in verse 20 that we are "bought with a price." and that we should glorify God in our bodies. In verse 7, God calls the priesthood a gift. Each one of us who has trusted in Christ is a priest (see 1 Peter 2v9). We should never treat our priesthood, merely as a duty that we have to perform, but rather as a gift that God has blessed as with. It should never be just a case of having to pray, but it should be a delight to pray, whether that be silently or publicly as God has laid down in His Word. As we carry on down these verses we see the privileges afforded to the priests and to the Levites. As mentioned above the priesthood is not a duty but a gift. While there are responsibilities as we saw above to keep ourselves pure, there are privileges given. That is that we can come into the very presence of the God of Heaven and ask whatsoever we will.
