ASSEMBLY YOUTH

The role of God in the Bible
Joel
by S. Latham

February 2007 beings us to the second of the minor prophets, this month's being the book of Joel.

The word God is mentioned only 11 times in this book. You may say its not enough to get an article out of but I trust I can get something out of this book for every reader and that the Lord Himself will bless whatever is written.

Joel 1 verse 14> is interesting it reads “Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD”

This made me think and ask myself how often do we call together our assembly other than the times of the meeting so we may meet with the Lord? When there is trouble and the need, do we call an extra meeting of the gathering together of His people and meet with the Lord, or cry out to Him?

Another verse that has caught my eye is chapter 2 verse 13 which reads “So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm” An interesting verse with a lovely description of the Lord, how true are those to you? He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and kind. From this verse we can see that God is our refuge, keeping us safe in times of troubles – is this true to you? Do you rely on Him, all day, every day, 24/7? He will bless all those that love Him but firstly He must be all those things to you that verse 13 states, we must let Him, giving our heart that He might have full control, for He will keep you safe if only you’ll let Him.
