Dare to be a Daniel
why is prophecy so important?
by A. Wood

So having spent a few months looking at various prophecies in Daniel, you may be asking you self, why is prophecy so important? Turn with me please to Daniel 9

Here we see Daniel has been reading the prophecy of Jeremiah in particular the passage in chapter 25v1-14, where the Lord informed Israel through His prophet, Jeremiah, what would happen to them as a punishment for their sin. Likewise in various prophecies we have been forewarned of coming judgement for those who do not accept Christ as their Saviour.

Because of this prophecy Daniel knew the time of captivity was nearly over. Likewise we believers know that our time on this earth is drawing to a close, while we haven't been given the exact time, we can see various signs which we will, God willing, look at in future months.

We also can be reassured as we see earlier prophecies fulfilled, that God will fulfil prophecies already given for future events.
Daniel knowing this can thus pray intelligently to God, likewise we, if we know God's prophecies and indeed the rest of His Word, can pray intelligently to God.

Prophecy also reinforces the Bible's credentials. Because so much prophecy accurately predicts events that happened hundreds of years later, we know the Bible must be of God, for only He knows what will happen long before it does.
