This month I undertake my role as Deputy Editor of Assembly youth magazine and for this Christmas Edition, I am going to write the editorial, giving you something to think about as Christmas 2006 comes upon us. I wander, have you sent your Christmas cards yet? What a job it is nowadays to buy the right cards from the shops, they can either be crude, rude, revolve around drink, eat and be merry, or have the words Merry Xmas written on the front of them. What a shame, the whole reason for Christmas is being removed from the word itself, and replaced with an X. The whole aspect of Christmas has gone so commercialised, for every business I know its about good business and making money. Lets look at the book of Matthew chaper 1 verse 23 – which reads “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” Now, think about that for a minute and tell me that the basis of the verse brings us to the main reason we can celebrate Christmas in the way we do. It’s not about presents and eating a lot of food, then making a new years resolution to lose weight! It is about the one called Emmanuel, the one true God and Lord, who came into this world to save us. He’s saved you hasn’t he? He came into the world to save us, and be ‘God with us’, so this Christmas, let Him have His place in your Christmas celebrations, He should be the centre.
