Read - Luke ch 2.Paul says in 2 Corinthians ch8v9, "He became poor". How true this statement is when we read the above reading. The decree was made by Ceasar Augustus, both Joseph and Mary left Nazareth to make a long journey to Bethlehem to be taxed. It was while they were there, Mary gave birth to a baby, her firstborn, "wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger". This is the start of the amazing story of a man who would do many wonderful things in His life, see many people, heal and help, and then take a stoop to a cross, for doing nothing wrong. Do you notice that this man, Jesus, did not come with great pomp or fanfare. There were not a huge number of people told of his birth, but he was to be born to a peasant woman in a borrowed stable. That’s humility. Nowadays, we have the wanders of hospitals, Jesus came into the world with surroundings that did not show to that of a Saviour. The lack of celebration of such a momentous event, to who the angel of the Lord came bringing, "tidings of good news". These men of such a low degree, to who this announcement was made were "sore afraid". The shepherds must have been even more surprised when a "multitude of heavenly host" joined the angel in praising God". As we look into His coming, I trust the importance of this coming into the world of our Saviour, will not escape our minds. This man Jesus, came down from heaven to save a lost creation. He was sinless giving His life a ransom for all. Let this be more than an event in history to us, but a more personal event - it was for us He came. The glory of the Lord appeared in Luke ch 2v9, and dwelt among us. The shepherds glorified and praised God, what a marvellous event, and a privilege to have witnessed it, many people gave thanks for his coming. Over 2000 years on, Christians still remember His birth. His birth has not lost its meaning today, as we approach Christmas rapidly, can we remember and thank Him for that amazing coming as a baby in Bethlehem. Luke knew the coming of "the man Christ Jesus" was for the redemption of sinful men, and that this meant, ultimately, his death at Calvary. PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS COMING - WHAT A SAVIOUR IS OURS TODAY.
