ASSEMBLY YOUTH

Wilderness Years
the unequal yoke
by A. Wood

After Balaam's various discourses we come to Numbers 25 and a different problem has arisen in the camp. Some of the Israelites have taken a liking to the Maobite women. These leads them on to worshiping their gods. The desire for them to take on women from outside their faith, led them to leave their faith and follow after another religion. God is angry at this and commands them all to be killed, that his anger at Israel again rejecting Him, might be stayed. We then see an Israelite add insult to injury by bringing in a Midanite woman to his family, Phinehas, the priest, carrys out God's justice and kills them there and then.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness" 2 Corinthians 6v14 God's standards haven't changed today. IT is still wrong for us as believers in Christ, to marry or even to go out with unbelievers. It is all to easy for us to get pulled down, even without them saying or doing anything, our desire for God will reduce as we spend more time with them, our worship and service for God will be limited by our desire to spend more time with them. We may think that we can bring them to God, but sadly while one or two do succeed, so many try and fail. We need to be on our guard and protect ourselves, for it is easy for anyone of us to be drawn away.
