Thought for the month
Lord's supper
by S. Latham

This month I would like to look into a part of a Christian's life which is very important. How easy it can be to miss this, which sometimes can happen, unfortunately. I wander.....do you go to the breaking of bread meeting as often as you can? Do I? Some have regular commitments that cannot be avoided, a shame but what about those that dont?

The Breaking Of Bread meeting is a time when we meet with our Saviour, remember Him, Worship Him, and of course give Him thanks and praise for everything He has done and continues to do. 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 17-34 covers the subject. I'm looking particularly at verse 28 which is a challenging one!

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

My first point, how difficult is it to examine ourselves? Look at what we've been doing, picking out the wrong things and admitting them before God? Difficult huh? Well this verse tells us this is something we must try to do before we break bread. Challenging too? When we examine ourselves, do we realise those wrong things, bring them to Him then the very next week go and do them again? Are we learning from our mistakes in our Christian lives? We all make them, without a doubt, but do we learn?

May I challenge you, do we examine ourselves before the meeting? Do we think before wrong things are done? Do we admit our faults? The chapter goes on to say anyone who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgement to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. A challenge....? Think about it, may it be a challenge to the way you live your life for Christ.
