Well the month of April is upon us and we find ourselves looking into the role of God in the final Gospel, The Gospel of John. Firstly, we read in the 1st chapter verse 6, which reads “there came a man who was sent from God; his name was John”. Even today, God is still sending people, whether it be for the purposes of guidance, for example, a close friend to say a few words to us given by God, but also for us to speak with them to bring them to the knowledge and to faith in Him, through his help. I wander, how many times, has God shown you something through a sign or person? God is still in business and even today is working in the hearts and lives of many people. Moving onto verse 34 of the same chapter which reads “I have seen and I testify, that this is the Son of God”. Verse 49 reads “Rabbi, You are the Son of God”. Whilst looking into the book of John, the word “son of God” is used several times, maybe more times than you may think! 9 times in the book of John. May I draw your attentions to chapter 6 verse 69 which reads “Also we have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Have we been here? Have we, as young Christians, recognised the fact of who He is? He is the Christ!
John chapter 9 verse 35b is also a challenging verse, “He said to Him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?””
From this brief study, I conclude to say that in this book, God’s role, is the Son of God. Not just any old son, but of one that came into the world as in John chapter 3 verse 16 “For God so loved the world” Please send any questions or comments you have on this article to s.latham@assemblyyouth.net
