| Christ in all the Scriptures Abel | by A. Wood | |||||

This month I would like to look at Abel and see how he compares to Christ. Abel was the second son of Adam and Eve, and was killed by their first son Cain in a jealous rage, when Abel offered up a sacrifice to God that was more acceptable to God than Cain's sacrifice. See Genesis 4 In Hebrews 11v4 we read "Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain". This reminds us of the better sacrifice Christ offered there on the cross of Calvary to take away our sins, a sacrifice better than that offered throughout the Old Testament. (see Hebrews 10 That it was his own brother that killed him, reminds us of John 1v11-12 where we are told about Christ that "He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him." While we have these two comparisions there is one contrast, for we read in Genesis 4v10 that Abel's blood called for vengeance. But in Hebrews 12v24 we read that Christ's blood "speaks a better word than the blood of Abel." Rather than vengence it calls out for forgiveness. Have you trusted in Christ's shed blood for forgiveness from your sins, if you have then, I trust these few thoughts have bought joy to your heart as we've looked again at a picture of Christ from the Old Testament.
