Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8v12)

This verse takes as back to the start of John, where Jesus Christ is spoken about being "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1v5). When this world was full of sin, when men had turned their backs to God, God did not send fire and brimstone down to burn this world up, but instead in love sent forth His Son. Just as a light shines through the darkness, Jesus Christ's holiness shone in this world of sin.

We need to stay focused on the light that is Jesus Christ. If we stray from the path we will be in darkness, but if we closely follow Jesus then He will guide us through this wilderness. While the devil seeks to lay traps for us in the dark, by following Christ we can see those traps. The question is will we closely follow Christ and let His light shine through our lives? If we do then not only will He keep us, but also others will see that light and be drawn to Him, that they may come to know Him as their Saviour.
