Here we are another month is upon us, therefore another article in this series of God’s role in the books of the Bible. This month, we find ourselves in the book of Obadiah. This month we have come across a difficult book due to the fact it consists of one chapter and contains just 21 verses. It is the 4th of the minor prophets of 12. This book only contains the word God once in the chapter, and that is in verse 1. You may be wandering how I am going to look at the role of God in this book if His name is only mentioned the once. I will try my best!! In Obadiah 17, God foretells that He will restore all of Israel's former lands. This includes most of Lebanon, most of Syria, nearly to Damascus, and the provinces of Moab and Edom, which comprise two-thirds of the nation of Jordan. Obviously, these nations will have to be conquered and destroyed pretty thoroughly for Israel to be able to inhabit them again. I’ve always been amazed on how God foretells things and they became truth. He could tell what was going to happen, when and how – a God that can see what’s heading our way. In Obadiah 18, God delivers His prophecy of total physical destruction of the House of Esau, which is Jordan and Syria. God foretells, "And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the Lord hath spoken it."> When God means business, He means business. The total destruction is as described. Remember where God warns the people in Moses day of the coming flood and people laughed at Noah, God could tell what was coming because He controlled and continues to control what’s going on – even today. Through what He says here, we can see God is the Lord of the Kingdom. When God tells you something in your life and walk with Him, Listen. Ignore Him at your peril! God cares for us, but we must be willing to listen to Him, He controls what happens in our life, when and whether we walk close to Him, listening for what He has to say, will prepare us for what’s just around the corner.
