It does us all good to go over the basics again once in a while and it is one of the most basic I want to look at this month. Let's take a look at just what salvation is.
What does the word Salvation mean?
Well lets split the word in two. The suffix "ation" means an experience or act of. The first half is the same as to save which is to be rescued. So putting it back together again Salvation is the act or experience of being saved or rescued.
What do I need saving from?
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3v23
It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9v27
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20v11-15
Each one of us, who ever we are, has at some point in our life comitteded a sin. In all likelihood we have comitteded many sins in our lives. What is a sin? A sin is an act of disobedience against God. This can be anything from disobeying our parents to adultery, from lying to murder. Because of these sins we deserve to be punished by God. God's righteous judgement for sin demands that we die unless we have been saved.
How can I experience salvation?
In Acts 16v30-31 a jailor asked almost the same question.
Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."
Simply by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ you can be saved.
How is this possible
Because Christ Jesus died on the cross of Calvary for the sins that you and I have and will comitted.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3v16
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:3b
So who can experience Salvation?
As the verse above indicates, anyone can be saved, all they have to do is believe in Him. What doe sit mean to believe in Him? It means to trust in Him for your salvation, not to rely on anything else, but to wholly trust in Him, that He left the glories of Heaven to come to this earth, to die for our sins.
So if I'm saved and I'm not going to hell, where am I going?
We haven't just been saved from going to hell, by God's amazing grace, we have been given a place in Heaven.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1v3-5
So let me ask you a question, are you saved? Have you experienced God's wonderful saving power and trusted in Him for Salvation. If so rejoice, if not, can I ask you why not? Why delay any longer, why not trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation this very moment?
